In gentoo, we don't do this kind of manual woodoo.
Use a proper ebuild instead:

Works great! Until I run a program as root…then it just uses the old fugly notification system. Using version 0.9.29

Thank you very very much for this! This was exactly what I was looking for. My opensuse installation didn't have this cool black bubble notification, but my mint installation did. I wanted the same for opensuse. I will recommend this for others as well. Greetings from Finland, Rolle.

Hello,

thank you for this howto. It's very nice.
Unfortunately, I have a few problems. I can't manage to use the nice icons either with rhythmbox or by using the command "notify-send". In addition to that, I don't know how to use the notify with the volume or the brightness. Any idea how I can do that?
