Pommo - Mailing List Software
Written on Jul 16, 2008 // Net, Open Source.
Pommo is a simple but powerful Open Source Mailing List managing tool, with a simple and nice interface, and a complete managing system, full of all the aspects that are required for a mass mailing software.
The software, completely realized on PHP and released under GPL licence, presents a new user friendly structure, furnished with a new generation style, uses a Javascript and Ajax on configuration panels and presents the possbility to set the preferred language. The big buttons are referred to the web 2.0 style. In the configuration panel, I noticed a great CVS importing tool, that provide automatically to the deleting of the duplicated contacts (I believe it checks just the email field, not the others).
The software oggers like many others the users adminsitration, the managing of their subscriptions and outlines. The list of users is paginated, sortable for any field, exportable in many formats and completed with a fast search tool.
Also it is available a nice log of the sent mail, which is sortable and searchable too. In the configuration, it is possible to custom the filed of profiles and generate the registration form to the mailing list. The form is quite ugly but it’s a starting point for those who don’t know HTML.
A new aspect, pointed up from the authors, is the possibility of splicing an own mailing list and contacts in one or more groups and sub-groups. Each group can be selected when sending a mass mail, so that the administrator would be able to include or exclude some users/category of users.
In the configuration it’s possible to set the normal parameters typical of the mailing lists, such us titles, addresses, emails, confimation pages, protocols, automatic responses etc. For more information here are the links to the official site, where, with other many usefult explanations, it is possible to try an online demo.
